On That Day, Among These Groups, Where Will You Be Found?

Today's Word of God asks each one of us a question that no one can answer for another:
When I stand before God, among which group will I be found?
The prophet Isaiah assures us that God's Word never fails. It always accomplishes His purpose. We can ignore it, reject it, or delay responding to it, but one day we shall all give an account of how we received it.
St. Paul reminds us that the sufferings of this present life are nothing compared with the glory that awaits those who remain faithful. Every temptation resisted, every sacrifice made, every act of love done for Christ is preparing us for eternal joy.
In the Gospel, Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower. The seed is the same, but the hearts are different. Some hearts are hard; God's Word never enters. Some receive it with joy but give up when trials come. Others allow the worries of life, money, pleasure, anger, pride, and worldly distractions to choke God's grace. Only the good soil bears fruit.
A true story is told of a farmer who sowed good seed in his field. Months later, he noticed that one part of the field had produced almost nothing. The seed was not the problem. The rain had fallen everywhere, but that section was overgrown with weeds that had silently choked the crop. Looking at it, he sadly said, "The harvest did not fail because I lacked seed; it failed because I neglected the field."
Many Christians are like that field. God has given us His Word, the Eucharist, the Sacraments, and countless opportunities to repent. Yet, without noticing it, resentment, greed, impurity, laziness, gossip, and unforgiveness slowly grow like weeds until they choke our spiritual lives.
My brothers and sisters, death does not give an appointment before it comes. Every cemetery is filled with people who thought they still had tomorrow. The greatest tragedy is not to die; the greatest tragedy is to die without bearing fruit for Christ.
Today, Jesus is not condemning us. He is inviting us to become good soil. If your heart has become hard, ask Him to soften it. If you have grown cold in your faith, ask Him to renew you. If the thorns of sin have taken over your life, allow Him to uproot them today through sincere repentance and a good confession.
When the final harvest comes, may we not be found among those who merely heard God's Word, but among those who lived it faithfully and bore fruit for eternal life.
May the Lord make our hearts good soil, so that on the last day we shall be gathered into His eternal kingdom.
Amen.
